Beginning of our first flight

I am writing this blog post while sitting in the first place we will be staying on this trip. It’s really nice- I’m rooming with Megan, it's literally a road away from the beach, and there’s no wifi. Which, isn’t that bad. Honestly. I find it liberating. Okay, I’m not fooling that many people, but that at least explains why this post is late. We flew out of JFK around 11:30, and had a 12 hour flight (hours of sleep deprived laughing at the Lego Batman movie and butt numbing discomfort). Although it wasn’t all for naught. We got to see a middle east sunrise - and ended up in Dubai early morning of the 4th.

Sunrise over the Middle East

Much needed coffee!

After that there was a small one hour layover (more or less) and then we were on another flight headed to Cape Town! I know travel and jet lag is rough sometimes but this has been a struggle. I'm really good at keeping my head when traveling and I have the experience to back me, but it’s the actual physical act of having to be on flights with tons of other people, many who don’t speak your language and who all fight to be first on the plane and off. I don’t care for the smells, the discomfort, and also the lack of sleep I always find when traveling. Needless to say, I am one tired lady in need of a long shower which I can’t take because Cape Town is in a drought…. BUT I AM POSITIVE I AM GOING TO HAVE THE TIME OF MY LIFE. Just arriving at 6:15 at night in SA and barely making out all of my surroundings was a blessing. It makes me all the more excited to go adventure tomorrow! Plus, I am right across from THE BEACH. As in, THE OCEAN. Oh, how I've missed living this close to the ocean <3 Until later :)
